A Chicago man has been sentenced to twenty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for a home invasion that took place in Naperville in August 2022. Adam Stone, 28, was sentenced by Judge Margaret O’Connell on January 23, 2026, following his conviction on two counts of Home Invasion, a Class X Felony. Stone had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic battery charges in Cook County and was on probation at the time of the offense.

The incident occurred on August 6, 2022, when Naperville Police responded to a report of a break-in at a residence on Smokey Court around 4:12 a.m. Officers found several men restraining Stone outside the home. Investigators determined that Stone had broken into the house by entering through a basement window while his ex-girlfriend was visiting there. He fought with people inside before being forced out. About fifteen minutes later, he returned and threw landscape bricks through the front window and at vehicles parked in the driveway.

Stone was denied bail after appearing in Bond Court on August 8, 2022, and has remained in custody at DuPage County Jail since then.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin commented: "We all have the right to feel safe and secure in our homes. Our homes are our sanctuaries that provide us with safety and security and when Mr. Stone broke into the victim’s home, he not only shattered the feeling of security the homeowners previously enjoyed, he also set an entire community on edge. Judge O’Connell’s twenty-year sentence sends the crystal-clear message that in DuPage County, we will not stand for this type of violent behavior and anyone engaged is such behavior will find themselves facing serious consequences. I commend Assistant State’s Attorneys Amanda Meindl and Grace Barsanti for their efforts in holding Mr. Stone accountable for his actions and for their continuing efforts in protecting the residents of DuPage County.”
