Wheaton tied with 35 other cities for 45th in Illinois scam reports in June
Wheaton logged two scam reports in June 2026 and was one of 36 Illinois cities tied for 45th among 237 cities with at least one BBB Scam Tracker report, according to Better Business Bureau.
That matched the number of reports the city had the previous month.
The most frequently reported scam type was advance fee loan, which accounted for one of the reports.
BBB Scam Tracker lets consumers search reported scams and share their experiences to help others recognize similar schemes. The BBB reviews each report before publication and does not publicly display the reporter’s name or personal contact information.
Fraud reports continue to show substantial financial losses nationwide. The Federal Trade Commission said consumers reported losing more than $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024, a 25% increase from the previous year.
