A traffic shift is scheduled this week on the York Road Bridge over the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) ramps in Oak Brook, according to a June 8 announcement from the Illinois Tollway. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, southbound traffic will be shifted onto the newly reconstructed southbound side of the bridge as part of ongoing reconstruction work. Traffic in both directions will remain reduced to a single lane and shifted to the outside lanes, with a work zone established in the middle.

In conjunction with this traffic shift, the multi-use path on the west side of York Road, which has been closed since last year, is scheduled to reopen. Construction and electronic message signs will be placed ahead of time to alert drivers about lane closures and shifts. The Illinois Tollway stated that all work is weather dependent, and up-to-date closure information will be available through its Daily Construction Alerts.

Currently, traffic on York Road Bridge is shifted onto the newly reconstructed northbound side while work continues on removing and rebuilding the southbound portion. The overall project includes not only bridge reconstruction but also roadway pavement widening and resurfacing as well as drainage repairs. Work is expected to continue through summer 2026.

The reconstruction effort is being coordinated with several agencies including the Village of Oak Brook, Illinois Department of Transportation, DuPage County, Pace Suburban Bus, local fire departments, and police departments. Funding for this project comes from an intergovernmental agreement between Oak Brook and proceeds from Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future—a 16-year capital program totaling $15 billion.

Work zone speed limits are enforced at all times throughout construction zones; specifically for York Road Bridge, a limit of 35 mph remains in effect during construction activities. The Illinois Tollway reminds motorists that state law requires changing lanes or slowing down when passing vehicles displaying hazard lights within construction areas or along road shoulders.
