North Central College senior Abigail Penados has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week. Penados achieved a 4-0 record last week while playing for the Cardinals, who currently hold first place in the conference.

Penados, from Morton Grove, Illinois, secured singles victories in dual matches against Wheaton and Augustana. She defeated Madeline Gentry of Wheaton with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at the top position in the lineup. Penados also won against Hannah Colbert of Augustana, finishing 7-5, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Penados partnered with Kensington Payne at the number one spot. The pair earned a 6-4 win over Wheaton’s Gentry and Tatum Thurstone. They also recorded a 6-1 victory against Augustana’s Colbert and Colleen Larry.

The CCIW has recognized several athletes as Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes of the Week during the 2025–26 season: Abigail Penados (North Central) on October 8, Natasa Pupovac (Carroll) on October 1, Xingchen Liu (Carthage) on September 24, Madeline Gentry (Wheaton) on September 17, Maddy Harned (Augustana) on September 10, and Alexandra Pugachova (North Park) on September 3.
