State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) has announced that $182.88 million in state funding will be directed toward road and bridge improvements in the 24th Senate District, which covers parts of DuPage and Suburban Cook Counties. The funding is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Multi-Year Program, supporting both state and local highway projects.
“This is a transformative investment in this region’s infrastructure,” said Lewis. “Every community in the 24th District will benefit from these projects, whether through safer intersections, smoother commutes, or better connectivity between towns. I am thrilled to see this level of investment coming to the 24th District.”
IDOT plans to invest $50.6 billion statewide between 2026 and 2031. Of that, $166.875 million is set aside for state highway projects within the 24th District, while $15.978 million will go to local highway improvements.
“These improvements are about more than roads and bridges,” Lewis added. “They represent jobs, economic growth, and a renewed commitment to maintaining safe and efficient roads for families and businesses. When we invest in infrastructure, we invest in the future of our communities.”
Thirty-one projects across the district are scheduled to receive funding over the next six years, with seven set to begin in 2026. State highway improvements will take place along major routes including Interstate 290, IL Route 53, the Eisenhower Expressway, US Route 20, US Route 34, IL Route 38, IL Route 56, IL Route 59, and IL Route 64. Local roadway projects are planned for Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Itasca, Wheaton, Winfield, and Wood Dale.
Lewis was elected as a Republican to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 and represents the state’s 24th Senate District after succeeding Suzy Glowiak.
