Six CCIW athletes earn spots on Academic All-America men’s at-large team

Six student-athletes from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) have been named to the Academic All-America at-large team, as announced by College Sports Communicators on July 9.

Illinois Wesleyan men's golfers Juney Bai, Quinn Clifford, and Griffin Pohl were selected for the First Team. Loras men's volleyball player Corey Mayotte was placed on the Second Team. Meanwhile, IWU men's lacrosse players Billy McHugh and Sam Weinberg joined North Central men's wrestling athlete Casey Aikman on the Third Team.

The Academic All-America Division III at-large teams include 15 honorees with a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate or graduate studies. The first team has an average GPA of 3.94, while the entire 46-man team holds a collective GPA of 3.88.

Juney Bai shared the CCIW Elite 26 Award with Clifford for two consecutive seasons. He earned All-CCIW and GCAA PING All-Region honors during his junior year. Bai participated in 11 tournaments, achieving an average of 73.4 strokes per round over 31 rounds. He won his second career tournament on March 23 at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Individual Tournament and finished strong with a 29th-place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Quinn Clifford maintained a perfect GPA throughout his undergraduate studies and received the CCIW Elite 26 Award three times alongside Bai in recent seasons. Competing in 11 tournaments this year, he averaged 72.8 strokes per round over 31 rounds, earning All-CCIW honors and being named to the Golf Coaches Association of America PING All-Region squad.

Griffin Pohl was voted a PING Second Team All-American by the GCAA, achieving a career-best scoring average of 72.1 over 31 rounds in his senior season as CCIW Men's Golfer of the Year.

Billy McHugh earned First Team All-CCIW recognition and United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Blatant Division III All-American Honorable Mention with notable statistics including nine single-season program history turnovers and maintaining a perfect GPA in economics.

Corey Mayotte achieved a GPA of 3.72 in sports management at Loras and was voted CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year for April after leading nationally in kills per set (5.35) and points per set (6.03).

Sam Weinberg scored third-most goals on his team with six man-up goals leading to graduation with a degree in neuroscience and finishing collegiate career with a GPA of 3.83.

Casey Aikman became North Central's first men's wrestling Academic All-America honoree since Nathan Fitzenreider in 2013 by posting an impressive record this season including winning CCIW Championship at 197 pounds against Jackson Punzel from Wheaton College.
