For Eloi Niyibizi, a student-athlete at North Central College, soccer has been more than just a sport; it has been a means to foster community connections and personal growth. The Aurora, Illinois native began his journey with the Aurora Eagles Soccer Club, which sparked his passion for soccer. However, choosing a college was complicated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Initially committed to the University of Dubuque in 2020, Niyibizi played for the Spartans during the shortened 2021 spring season. His desire to be closer to home led him to transfer to North Central in 2022. "I was getting homesick, and there were a lot of things going on with my family," Niyibizi explained. He found North Central offered both proximity and community support.

Niyibizi faced challenges upon transferring but praised the supportive environment at North Central. "The coaches were great, and it felt more like a community and a family," he said. During his tenure with the Cardinals, he appeared in 59 matches over three seasons, scoring eight goals and assisting ten times. His efforts contributed to NCC's back-to-back regular-season titles in 2022 and 2023 as well as CCIW Tournament titles in 2022 and 2024.

Beyond playing soccer, Niyibizi transitioned into coaching at the Aurora Eagles Soccer Club where he once played. "It's so rewarding watching and coaching little kids," he noted about mentoring young players. Additionally, he is involved with the Neighbor Project in Aurora, which focuses on affordable housing and community development.

"Soccer has taught me a lot of discipline and the importance of teamwork," Niyibizi stated about applying these lessons beyond sports. As he seeks full-time employment post-graduation while remaining active with both organizations, Niyibizi envisions growth for both clubs.

His story highlights how sports can shape lives beyond victories or accolades by fostering positive impacts within communities.
