City of Elmhurst Public Affairs and Safety Committee met May 12

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chair Brennan

5. Business Before the Committee
A. Public Affairs & Safety Committee Meeting, April 14th, 2025, Minutes
Alderman Sienko motioned to approve the minutes; Alderman Belanger seconded. Roll call vote: Brennan Aye, Sienko Aye, Belanger Aye. Motion carried.
B. Public Affairs & Safety Committee Meeting, April 28th, 2025, Minutes
Alderman Belanger motioned to approve the minutes; Alderman Sienko seconded. Roll call vote: Brennan Aye, Sienko Aye, Belanger Aye. Motion carried.
C. Adelaide Parking Deck Mural Project
Alison Dondlinger, Chairperson for the Public Arts Commission, provided an update to the Adelaide Parking Deck Mural Project. Chair Brennan related he was interested in Dondlinger explaining to the committee the lens the commission used to determine what artist to choose. Dondlinger explained the process and the criteria which were used to select the recommended project. Dondlinger related the commission funneled toward the recommended project due to the artwork telling a story. She explained the artist also requested to utilize the interior of the parking deck for the project. Chair Brennan inquired if the use of the interior wall was included in the total price, which Dondlinger related was. Alderman Belanger related he thought the story behind the artwork was fantastic and asked if the pillars would be completely wrapped. Alderman Belanger also asked what the process was for notifying residents about the project. Alderman Sienko stated she thought the design was vibrant, and asked what would occur if the artist went over budget. Alderman Sienko inquired if the total price would include all necessary equipment, including scaffolding, cloths, etc. In addition, Alderman Sienko asked about the timeline to finish the project. Chair Brennan inquired if there would be a warranty for the project. There was discussion about the project including a QR code or something similar for viewers to learn the story behind the project. Alderman Sienko motioned to approve the report; Alderman Belanger seconded. Roll call vote: Brennan Aye, Sienko Aye, Belanger Aye. Motion carried.
D. Elmhurst Police Department Annual Report
Police Chief McLean and Deputy Chief Gandy presented the annual report to the committee. There was discussion regarding the statistics contained within the report, and a summary of police operations and programs were presented. Chair Brennan asked for an update on how the current police department social worker was being utilized, and indicated the report was very well done.
E. Elmhurst Fire Department Overview of Operations- Discussion
Fire Chief Dufort provided the committee with an overview of the operation of the fire department, including their calls for service and a summary of the fire equipment they utilize. Chair Brennan asked for a status update on how Rescue One was being utilized, and Chief Dufort explained the way Rescue One is used.
F. Pending List Review
Chair Brennan deferred the item to a future meeting.
6. Other Business
City Manager Grabowski mentioned the “Cop on Top” Special Olympics fundraising event would take place on Friday at the Dunkin Donuts on North York Rd.
Dave Oberg, Executive Director for the Elmhurst History Museum related the first performance at their new public performance space would be on June 6th, 2025.
