In a recent development, Illinois Democrats have passed a $55.2 billion budget that introduces new taxes affecting working families and small businesses. The taxes will impact areas such as vaping, sports betting, and out-of-state sales. This budget was approved with limited time for public and legislative review, being presented less than 48 hours before the vote.

The budget includes $1 billion in new taxes and represents nearly a 4% increase in spending. It also allocates a $100 million fund for the Governor while cutting funding to community colleges and not providing property tax relief. Additionally, there is an increase in politicians' pay.

An opposition voice has emerged regarding the process and content of this budget decision. "I voted NO because this budget was crafted behind closed doors and paid for on the backs of Illinois taxpayers," stated one opponent of the measure. They further added, "It’s time to stop the reckless spending and start putting hardworking Illinoisans first."
