The Illinois budget for fiscal year 2026, totaling $55.2 billion, has been passed and is the largest in the state's history. The budget includes allocations that some consider unnecessary, such as pay raises for politicians, funding for projects outside certain districts, and resources for healthcare, housing, and transportation for undocumented immigrants.

In response to the budget's approval, Sanalitro expressed opposition by voting against it. "At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet," Sanalitro stated, "we should be focusing on ways to lower taxes, attract jobs, and enhance our quality of life."
