Charlotte Frere, a student-athlete from Augustana, has secured her second consecutive national title in the discus event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Geneva, Ohio. Frere entered the competition as the top seed and maintained her lead throughout the event despite challenging weather conditions.
Her initial throw of 46.69 meters set a strong pace, which she surpassed with a subsequent throw of 46.87 meters. This distance remained unbeaten through five rounds of competition. As the final round approached, Frere's leading mark was challenged but not surpassed, with the nearest competitor falling short at just under 46 meters.
In her last attempt, Frere extended her lead further with a throw of 48.35 meters, securing her victory. This achievement marks Frere's fifth national title for Augustana's women's track and field program overall and the fourth during an outdoor season. Notably, she is also recognized as the first female track and field athlete from Augustana to win two national championships.
"Indoor and outdoor combined," it was noted that "Frere now owns the fifth national title for the Augustana women's track & field program and the fourth during outdoor season."
