Elmhurst University has appointed David Stone as the new Director of Track and Field & Cross Country, as announced by Director of Athletics Dr. Glen Brittich. Stone, who has been with Elmhurst since 2017, previously served as the Associate Head Track and Field Coach.
"We are thrilled to elevate Coach Stone to lead our track and field and cross country programs," said Dr. Brittich. "His deep commitment to Elmhurst, combined with his proven track record of developing student-athletes at a high level, makes him the ideal person to guide our teams forward."
Stone has a background in coaching at various levels. Prior to Elmhurst, he coached sprinters at Aurora University and led high school teams at Benet Academy and Rockford Boylan High School. At Benet Academy, his teams achieved multiple championships.
"I am honored and humbled to have earned the trust of President Dr. Troy VanAken, Vice President Dr. Riordan, and Dr. Brittich," said Stone about his new role.
During his tenure at Elmhurst, Stone contributed significantly to the development of the Bluejays' programs, particularly focusing on jumps and sprints events. His efforts have resulted in over 100 All-CCIW honors for student-athletes under his guidance.
Recently recognized as the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, Stone played a key role in leading Elmhurst's women's long jump squad to top national rankings.
Stone is set to officially begin his duties as director in June.
