State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro has announced the unanimous passage of SB2075 in the Illinois House. The bill, which she sponsored, aims to modernize and expand the state's motorcycle safety education system. It received bipartisan support with a vote tally of 114-0.

"Every Illinoisan should be able to access high-quality motorcycle safety training no matter where they live," said Sanalitro. "This bill improves access, accountability, and safety for riders statewide."

The legislation updates the Cycle Rider Safety Training Program by expanding the types of organizations eligible to offer training. These include nonprofits, colleges, and community groups. It also mandates that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) publicly seek applications from qualified course providers across Illinois.

To ensure affordability, SB2075 includes provisions for refunding course fees upon successful completion. Additionally, it protects workers' rights and prevents conflicts of interest by restricting who can provide courses.

"This legislation reflects thoughtful collaboration with safety advocates like ABATE and has earned a neutral stance from IDOT," added Sanalitro. "It’s a smart way to promote safety while being responsible with taxpayer dollars."
