Illinois Wesleyan University golfer Michael Spitzer made history on Friday with a 7-under-par 65, the lowest round on record at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Golf Championship. This round helped the Titans widen their lead by 18 strokes after 36 holes at WeaverRidge Golf Club in Peoria, Illinois.

The Titans maintained a team score of 280 for the second consecutive round, putting them 16 strokes under par and 36 shots ahead of second-place Millikin, which was 10 shots over par on Friday. Wheaton holds third place at 593, followed by North Central at 602 in fourth place.

Spitzer’s performance, highlighted by five birdies and an eagle on hole #11, moved him one shot ahead of teammate Griffin Pohl on the leaderboard. Spitzer stands at six strokes under par (138) for the tournament. Close behind are Quinn Clifford from Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage’s Tanner Angelstad, who are tied for third place, three shots better than par.

In a tie for fifth place at one under par are North Park’s Alexander Remahl, Wheaton’s Jonah Swartz, Illinois Wesleyan’s Juney Bai, and Millikin’s Mateo Oneglia.

Carthage's Ethan Frasch recorded a 73 on Friday, thanks to a hole-in-one on the 194-yard eighth hole.

The final round of the championship is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the final group, featuring Spitzer, Oneglia, and Swartz, scheduled to tee off at 10:50 a.m.
