Dan Lloyd has been appointed as the director of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving programs, effective May 1, 2025. This announcement was made by Mike Wagner, the Director of Athletics, on Tuesday, April 15. Wagner remarked, "I am thrilled to welcome Dan home to Bloomington and excited to have him joining our Titan family," highlighting Lloyd's qualifications as "a proven program-builder" with a commitment to the Division III student-athlete experience.
Lloyd transitions from Augustana College, where he spent 11 years as the head coach. During his tenure, he led the Vikings to six CCIW Championships over the past four years. Under his guidance, the Augustana women's team won titles in 2022, 2024, and 2025, while the men's team secured championships in the last three seasons. His achievements include coaching 64 CCIW Individual Champions, two NCAA qualifiers, and 104 All-CCIW performances.
Reflecting on his new role at Illinois Wesleyan University, Lloyd expressed, "Thank you to President Zenger and Athletic Director Mike Wagner for this opportunity. I am honored to lead and build the program..." He noted the significance of returning to his hometown of Bloomington-Normal, stating, "I am excited to be coming back to...a community that is deeply invested in Illinois Wesleyan University."
Lloyd’s coaching journey began as an assistant at Wheaton, leading to positions at Hendrix College, Lawrence University, and Normal West High School. He earned various accolades throughout his career, including selection as the Midwest Conference Women's Coach of the Year and IHSA Girls Sectional Coach of the Year. His coaching repertoire also includes collaborations with Olympic medalists and involvement with prestigious swim camps.
Before coaching, Lloyd served on Capitol Hill, holding the position of web technology director for the U.S. House of Representatives' House Administration committee. As a former standout at Millikin University, he was a five-time All-America performer and nine-time individual conference champion.
