The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has announced the Softball Student-Athletes of the Week for the games held from April 7 to April 13.
Clare Rettler, a junior from Carthage College, has been recognized as the Hitter of the Week. Over the week, Rettler made a significant impact on the field, securing 19 hits out of 24 plate appearances, translating to a batting average of .792. Her performance contributed to Carthage's sweep in doubleheaders against North Central and Elmhurst. Rettler not only scored eight runs, provided five runs batted in, and eight stolen bases but also had an impressive streak of 11 consecutive plate appearances with a hit, which is the seventh-longest in Division III history. She went on to deliver seven hits in a doubleheader at Elmhurst and was 4-for-7 in a non-conference game at Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Pitcher of the Week accolade went to Kelsey Bruno, a senior from Millikin University. Bruno achieved two five-inning complete-game wins, delivering 18 strikeouts over 10 innings. Opponents managed a .194 combined batting average against her during her starts against Wheaton and North Park, while she allowed only four walks. Bruno's earned-run average for the week stood at 1.40.
In a series of recognitions throughout the season, Clare Rettler has received the Hitter of the Week award previously on April 7 and March 17. Other students recognized include Gwen Hendrick and Jen Kuhn. In the Pitcher category, recognitions have been given to Shylah Dozeman, Gianna Certa, and others including Kelsey Bruno earlier in the season.
