Carthage College emerged victorious in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Volleyball Tournament, securing the championship title for the third time. The Firebirds defeated Loras College in a closely contested match with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 26-24 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This win adds to their previous CCIW Tournament championships in 2021 and 2022, both of which led to national titles.
The top-seeded Firebirds, who concluded the regular season with a 9-1 record, showcased strong performances from several key players. Ben Heise led the team with 12 kills, followed by Owen Hendricks and Owen Otto with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Ryan Morey contributed significantly with a double-double, comprising 32 assists and 12 digs, along with two solo blocks.
Despite trailing in the first set, Carthage managed a decisive 7-2 run to close the frame. The second set remained tight, with the scores tied multiple times, but the Firebirds ended it with a strong finish. In the third set, after an initial lead, Carthage and Loras traded points until the Firebirds clinched the win following a decisive kill by Hendricks and a Loras error.
Loras' standout player, Corey Mayotte, recorded a match-high 18 kills, supported by 10 digs. Aidan Peloquin led the team in digs with 14, while Evan Dziadkowiec provided 31 assists.
In recognition of his academic and athletic excellence, Ben Heise received the conference's Elite 26 award during a pre-match presentation. As CCIW champions, Carthage will represent the conference in the NCAA Division III Tournament, with the selection show set for Monday at 9 a.m. CT on NCAA.com.
