Bryce Lowe, a senior quarterback at Carthage, reflects positively on his experience in Division III athletics. "I've made lifelong relationships with coaches and my teammates," he said, emphasizing the personal and professional growth he has experienced. Lowe highlighted his living situation with teammates, underscoring the bonds formed off the field.
Division III participation allowed Lowe to engage in extracurricular activities beyond sports. He participated in the CCIW/Special Olympics Bocce Challenge in Elmwood Park, Illinois, part of his community involvement efforts. The time commitment was less demanding than Division I or II, enabling him to volunteer for various initiatives, including the Special Olympics.
Lowe also supports the "Quarterbacks Vs. Cancer" initiative, started by Carter St. John of Alma College. This charity group allows Division III quarterbacks to provide football training to younger athletes, with all proceeds going to cancer charities. "It's a $25 training session, and all the money goes to a charity of your choice," explained Lowe. He managed to raise $1,000 for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and continues his fundraising efforts.
Additionally, Lowe is part of a student-led consulting company, providing him with business and marketing experience in line with his major. He appreciates how Carthage facilitates connections beyond the field, where coaches and faculty support him both in athletics and academics.
For Lowe, Carthage and Division III have been beneficial, providing opportunities for sports, community involvement, and career preparation. "I'm a huge family person, so I feel like going to Carthage is unmatched," he said, pointing to the supportive community atmosphere at the school.
"I'm not just a student-athlete, I'm a part of the Carthage family," he concluded.
