Millikin University's Charley Condill finds a balance in her college life through athletics, academics, and entrepreneurship. The sophomore embraces a busy schedule as she majors in art therapy and art education, while excelling in two sports—volleyball and softball.
"If you're motivated to do something, you can make time for it," Condill says. Her athletic achievements this season include leading the CCIW in runs scored and stolen bases, while maintaining an impressive batting record. Additionally, Condill has launched her own greeting card business.
Hailing from Arthur, Illinois, Condill developed her work ethic on her family's farm, The Great Pumpkin Patch. Her diverse high school sports background guided her to Millikin, where she could pursue her academic interests while playing sports.
"There are a lot of schools in Illinois that don’t offer art therapy as a degree," said Condill, explaining her choice of Millikin. Her artistic and athletic endeavors have been supported by the coaches, allowing her to thrive in her studies.
Beyond athletics and academics, Condill's passion for art spurred her entrepreneurial journey. She began selling greeting cards, which turned into a successful business. The earnings are set aside for a study abroad program in Vienna focused on global art.
Reflecting on her university experience, Condill appreciates the personal growth she has achieved, both on and off the field. "I want to find myself not just as an athlete or artist, but as a person," she says, while emphasizing the importance of relationships built in college sports.
"We're really having fun, which is the main point of playing sports," she states, focusing on team morale and values. Condill advises new college athletes to prioritize relationship-building over competition.
