Aurora University advanced to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Bowling Championship match for the second consecutive year. The team posted a 2-0 record on the first day of the 2025 event held at Suburbanite Bowl in Westmont, Illinois.
The third-seeded Spartans secured their position by winning two mega matches, both determined by best-of-7 Baker tiebreakers on Saturday. Aurora's initial victory was against #2 seed Carroll, followed by a win over top-seeded Marian.
Aurora began the competition with a loss in the traditional series against Carroll but rebounded to win the Baker game with a score of 846-801. The Spartans triumphed in the Baker best-of-7 series, four games to two. In their subsequent match against Marian, Aurora needed another comeback in the Baker game and won 808-794. The deciding seventh game of the Baker best-of-7 series secured their 4-3 victory and a spot in Sunday's final.
Marian will face Carroll in an elimination match on Sunday at 8 a.m. The Sabres emerged victorious over Elmhurst in both traditional and Baker games during Saturday's opening session.
After losing to Aurora, Carroll defeated fourth-seeded Elmhurst by winning both the traditional game, 854-771, and the Baker best-of-7 tiebreaker, 4-1.
Aurora is set to compete at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Westmont against either Marian or Carroll. To claim the championship title, either Marian or Carroll must defeat Aurora twice—once in a mega match format and once in a best-of-7 Baker series.
