The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has recognized the standout performances of its Women’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes for the week of February 24 to March 2.
In the offensive category, August Claridge from Carthage College earned accolades for her significant contributions. A sophomore from Wheaton, Illinois, and last season’s CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year, Claridge accumulated a total of 12 points across two games. She played a pivotal role in Carthage's decisive 17-5 victory against Aurora with two goals and two assists. Furthermore, she delivered an impressive performance with seven goals and one assist in a 15-8 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse. These achievements allowed Claridge to exceed 100 career goals and points.
On the defensive side, Mia Fiandaca from Illinois Wesleyan University was honored for her exceptional efforts. The senior from St. Charles, Illinois led her team to three consecutive wins last week, including their first shutout since 2019. Fiandaca set new records for caused turnovers in single games on consecutive occasions, amassing a total of 23 caused turnovers along with 24 ground balls and 20 draw controls throughout the week. Her record-setting performance included 12 caused turnovers in an 11-5 victory over Edgewood and establishing a program record with ten ground balls during a commanding 23-0 shutout against Illinois Tech. In addition to her defensive prowess, Fiandaca contributed ten goals for the Titans during this period.
The CCIW also highlighted previous awardees: Elizabeth Wang from Carroll was recognized as Offensive Player on February 25, while Jacq Vanoni from Elmhurst received Defensive honors on the same date.
