State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro of Hanover Park has initiated a petition aimed at eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay in Illinois. This effort is part of her ongoing legislative work to reduce the tax burden on workers, allowing them to retain more of their income.

Sanalitro has introduced two pieces of legislation addressing this issue. House Bill 1898 proposes an income tax deduction for gratuities, while House Bill 1899 seeks a similar deduction for overtime compensation.

"Hardworking Illinoisans deserve a break," Sanalitro stated. "Whether it’s through earning tips or putting in extra hours, the government shouldn’t be taking more of the hard-earned money individuals work so hard for." She further emphasized that these bills are designed to allow workers to keep more of what they earn and prevent the state from benefiting from others' labor. "No more taxes on tips or overtime!" she concluded.

Those interested in supporting this initiative can sign the petition online.
