The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has recognized its Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week for performances during games held from February 14 to February 23.
Thomas Ward, a senior from Carroll University, earned the title of Hitter of the Week. In his team's season opener against Berea in O'Fallon, Illinois, Ward showcased his offensive skills by going 3-for-5 at bat. He hit two home runs and a double, contributing significantly to the Pioneers' 15-8 victory. The home runs were the 11th and 12th of his collegiate career. Ward also scored twice and drove in six runs during the game.
Zach O'Donnell from Millikin University was named Pitcher of the Week. The southpaw secured wins in both of his initial starts for the season, achieving a remarkable earned-run average (ERA) of 0.82 with eight strikeouts across 11 innings pitched. In his debut on February 16 against Westminster, O'Donnell allowed only one run on three hits over five innings as Millikin triumphed with a scoreline of 15-4. He continued his strong form by pitching six innings against Transylvania on Sunday, leading Millikin to an 8-1 victory without conceding an earned run while striking out four batters and allowing five hits.
