Carthage University's women's swimming team maintained their lead, while Augustana College's men's team surged ahead at the 74th annual College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming & Diving Championships. The event took place at Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
As of Friday, Carthage's women held a total of 578.5 points. However, their lead over second-place Augustana narrowed to just 9.5 points after the Vikings accumulated 569 points by the end of day three. Wheaton College was in third place with 525 points.
Wheaton secured victory in the women's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.54 and achieved wins in four subsequent events: Tess Boyer in the 400 individual medley (4:26.84), Kara Grace Hess in the 100 butterfly (58.11), Katie Yonan in the 200 freestyle (1:52.80), and Savannah Jeffrey in the 100 backstroke (59.20). Augustana's Zoe Heiar also claimed victory on Friday night by winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.41.
On the men's side, Augustana led with a score of 651 points, surpassing Carthage's total of 615 and Wheaton's tally of 586 as they entered the final day of competition. Tyler Leslie contributed to Augustana's success by winning the men's 200 freestyle in a time of 1:39.00, alongside several top-three finishes from other Viking athletes across different events.
Carthage achieved multiple first-place performances among men on Friday night, including victories in the men's 200 medley relay (1:32.00) and individual wins from Christian Snyder in the men's 100 butterfly (49.63 seconds) and Tyson Politsch in the men's 100 breaststroke (56.67 seconds).
The championships are set to conclude on Saturday with preliminary races beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by senior recognition at 5 p.m., and concluding with final sessions starting at 6 p.m.
