Carthage women and Wheaton men lead CCIW swim championships after day two

Carthage College leads the women's team standings, while Wheaton College is ahead in the men's competition after two days of events at the 74th annual College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships. The event is being held at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

The Carthage women's team has accumulated 330 points, placing them ahead of defending champions Augustana with 306.5 points and third-place Wheaton with 304 points. Carthage's performance included second-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay on Thursday night. Emily Belcik achieved Carthage’s best individual result by finishing second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.33.

In contrast, Wheaton secured victory in the women's 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.03. Augustana claimed first place in the women's 400 medley relay, completing it in 3:58.00.

For the men’s competition, Wheaton leads narrowly with a total of 366 points, just one point ahead of Augustana's tally of 365 points. Carthage remains close behind with a score of 358 points.

Augustana swimmers excelled on Thursday by winning four events: Mark Addison set a meet record in the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.84; Tyler Leslie won the men's 200 individual medley clocking at 1:50.01; Oskar Bannister took first place in the men's 50 freestyle with a time of 20.83 seconds; and their team triumphed in the men's relay for the 400 medley finishing at a time of approximately three minutes and twenty-two seconds.

Carthage managed to secure another win for their men’s team by achieving victory in the men’s event for the same day –the men’s event win–with a winning mark recorded as approximately one minute and twenty-three seconds during this competitive stretch covering several rounds throughout these championships continuing into Friday morning starting preliminaries scheduled from half-past ten onwards within this particular venue designated specifically designed facilitating all participants involved collectively partaking accordingly.
