Mariellyn Vivo Conference Coordinator | College Conference Of Wisconsin And Illinois
Ten student-athletes from North Central College achieved top-three finishes at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Wrestling Championship. Six of these athletes won their respective weight classes, leading the Cardinals to secure their third consecutive championship title on Saturday at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
North Central concluded the event with a total of 169.0 points. Millikin University finished second with 122.0 points, marking its third consecutive runner-up finish. MSOE placed third with 107.0 points, which is their highest team finish since joining the league as an associate member in the 2016-17 season.
The CCIW Co-Head Coaches of the Year were selected by a coaches' vote and awarded to MSOE's Mike Schmidt and North Central's Grant Zamin.
Millikin’s Dejon Glaster was recognized as the CCIW Most Outstanding Student-Athlete after achieving a 19-4 technical fall in the final match of the 174-pound bracket. This victory marked Glaster’s fourth individual CCIW title in succession.
Rhenzo Augusto from Elmhurst was named CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year after securing first place in the 157-pound weight class.
Cameron Lee, a senior at Millikin who finished third at 125 pounds, received the CCIW Elite 26 award for excelling both academically and athletically within the conference's sports offerings.
Individual winners for North Central included Christian Guzman (125), Bradley Rosen (141), Alex Villar (165), Payton Geigner (184), Casey Aikman (197), and Robby Bates (285). This victory marks North Central's 11th CCIW men's wrestling title since 1962 and is their first three-year streak since winning consecutively from 2008 to 2010.
Millikin also had multiple individual champions with Coby Haney (133) and Chase Mirelez (149) joining Glaster on top of the podium.
