Carthage College has ascended to the top five in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings, moving up one position. North Central College re-entered the poll at number 19. The AVCA released the updated rankings on Tuesday, highlighting a strong presence from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), with three teams making it into the top 20.
Carthage's volleyball team, currently holding a record of 7-2, secured its spot by defeating then-ranked number 19 Dominican in a four-set match last week. The Firebirds accumulated 463 points in this week's poll.
Loras College maintained its position at number 12 after sweeping Edgewood last Tuesday in Dubuque. With a current record of 5-1, Loras has achieved four consecutive victories since January 25 and garnered 265 points in the rankings.
North Central College made an impressive return to the rankings at number 19 after winning its last three matches. Two of these victories occurred last week, including a significant win over then-number 15 Aurora in four sets. Previously unranked, North Central collected 90 points in this week's poll.
NYU continues to hold onto first place with support from 19 first-place votes. Southern Virginia remains second with the remaining eleven first-place votes. Vassar holds steady at third place while Stevens Institute of Technology climbed one spot to fourth.
