Wheaton, Illinois - Soren Richardson, a standout player for Wheaton men's basketball, has been recognized with national honors following an impressive performance last week. He was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week late Monday and received the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III Player of the Week accolade on Tuesday.

Richardson is notable as the first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) men's basketball player this season to receive the USBWA honor. He joins Aston Francis as only the second Wheaton player to achieve this recognition; Francis earned it on February 12, 2019.

Richardson's inclusion in these honors marks him as the 12th different Wheaton player to be named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, contributing to Wheaton's 23rd selection overall. Other players from Wheaton who have been recognized include Luke Moo; Joel Kolmodin (five times); Jordan Kemper; Kent Raymond; Tim McCrary (twice); Andrew Jahns; Tyler Peters (twice); Ricky Samuelson; Aston Francis (five times); Nyameye Adom; and Tyson Cruickshank (three times).

In his recent games, Richardson averaged 41 points per game, leading Wheaton to victories against North Park and Carroll. His field goal percentage was 63% over these games, including a three-point shooting accuracy of 52.9%. Additionally, he contributed seven steals and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game.

During Wednesday's win against North Park, Richardson scored a remarkable 53 points in a 102-89 victory. This achievement set a record for most points by a Wheaton player in CCIW play and ranks as the third-highest single-game total ever by a Wheaton men's basketball player. It also stands as the second-highest point total by any Division III men's basketball player this season. The effort ranks fifth all-time in CCIW history for points scored in a single game.

Richardson followed up with another strong performance on Saturday against Carroll University at home, scoring a game-high 29 points. He added seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and achieved five steals—a career high—in leading his team to a 91-81 victory.
