State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro has introduced a bill, HB1905, aiming to exempt school supplies from sales tax during the back-to-school season. The legislation is designed to alleviate financial pressure on parents and guardians while ensuring students have necessary educational tools.

"Back-to-school shopping can be a major expense for families, especially with the rising costs we see today," said Rep. Sanalitro. "This bill provides meaningful relief to parents and helps ensure students are equipped with the resources they need to thrive in the classroom."

The proposed tax holiday would cover essential items like notebooks, pencils, and backpacks during the first seven days of August each year. By reducing these costs, the legislation aims to support families and encourage investment in Illinois students.

"This is a simple but impactful way to support families and students across Illinois," added Rep. Sanalitro. "Our children are the future, and this bill is a step toward making education more affordable for all."

The proposal is currently under review by the 104th General Assembly.

State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro serves House District 48, which includes several communities in suburban DuPage and Cook counties.
