State Representative Amy Grant of Wheaton has put forward new legislation aimed at improving environmental safety in Illinois. The proposed bill, HB1640, focuses on enhancing transparency and efficiency in managing contamination from leaking underground storage tanks. This initiative seeks to facilitate the publication of public notices for clean-up project bids online, which is expected to expedite protective measures for the state's soil and water.

"Leaking underground storage tanks pose a serious threat to our environment, including our drinking water and soil," stated Rep. Grant. "This legislation streamlines the clean-up process by making bid notices more accessible to contractors and the public and allow us to respond faster and more effectively."

The bill's objective is to modernize the state's approach to this environmental issue while ensuring transparency and safeguarding public health. By utilizing online platforms for bid notices, Illinois can engage with a wider pool of contractors, potentially leading to competitive pricing and swifter clean-up operations.
