On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204. The request was made by the DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically asked for copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study". These records are sought under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

At DuPage Policy Journal, we believe in holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary stood at $116,908. The average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, indicating that for every administrator there are approximately 141 students. On the other hand, the average student-to-teacher ratio is significantly lower at 17:1. It's also worth noting that more than half (58%) of teachers in Illinois hold a master's degree or higher.
