On January 24, Rep. Casten highlighted the alarming climate situation by stating that "2024 was the hottest year on record, and climate-related disasters resulted in economic losses of more than $180 billion." He emphasized the urgency of taking action to prevent such catastrophic events.
Later that day, he criticized certain immigration enforcement actions by expressing his disapproval of ICE's presence at educational institutions. He remarked that "It is sickening, unnecessary, and harmful for ICE to show up at an elementary school." He further condemned former President Donald Trump for endangering children with these actions.
