Illinois residents who did not receive COVID stimulus payments in 2021 may soon be eligible for automatic payments from the IRS. Starting in late January, up to $1,400 could be distributed as part of a $2.4 billion initiative aimed at approximately 1 million eligible taxpayers. These funds are designated for individuals who neglected to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.

The IRS has made eligibility and payment details available on its website. Taxpayers will be informed if they qualify for these payments.
