A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office on January 7, 2025, seeking comprehensive details about all arrests made in the year 2024.
The request was made by us at the DuPage Policy Journal, a media organization dedicated to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs. We requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, preferably in an electronic format.
The specific information we sought includes a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024, till December 31, 2024. The fields requested for each arrest record are: the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As members of the media committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and will continue to keep our readers informed about local governmental affairs.
