Illinois State House District 81 candidate Aaron Porter acknowledged the outcome of the election in a November 6 Facebook post, stating, "While the results of this election were not what we had hoped for, I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and the values we stood for."
"While the results of this election were not what we had hoped for, I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran and the values we stood for," said Porter, according to Facebook. "First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you who supported our journey. Your dedication and hard work have been truly inspiring. From the volunteers who knocked on doors and made phone calls, to those who donated their time and resources, your commitment has been the backbone of our campaign."
In his message, Porter expressed gratitude to his supporters. "I also want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Anne Stava-Murray. Running for public office is no small feat, and I commend you on your victory. I hope you will serve our community with integrity and dedication, addressing the needs and concerns of all constituents. To my family and friends, thank you for your unwavering support," he wrote.

Official results are not yet available from the Illinois Secretary of State. However, Ballotpedia reports that in the November 5 general election, Republican Aaron Porter received 25,299 votes, accounting for 43.8% of the votes cast in this race. Incumbent Democrat Anne Stava-Murray garnered 32,408 votes or 56.2% of the total 57,707 votes cast.
According to Ballotpedia, Porter ran unopposed in the Republican Primary in March 2024.
Porter's campaign platform focused on reducing living costs and taxes while increasing the state's tax base by attracting new residents and businesses. He also emphasized supporting law enforcement to enhance community safety and address rising crime rates in Illinois.
Porter is a lifelong resident of Downers Grove area and currently resides in Naperville with his wife and four children. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences from Saint Xavier University and has experience as a paraprofessional and volleyball coach before becoming a special education instructional assistant. Presently, he serves as a patrol officer in Naperville.
