FOIA Request Sent to City Of Naperville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Naperville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the DuPage Policy Journal have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Naperville Finance Department.

The request was sent on October 31, 2024, seeking access to specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.

The information sought includes a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested details about each business include its name, type, and the amount of sales tax it paid during this period.

Additionally, we requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. This data will provide insights into the financial health of local businesses and the city's revenue from sales tax during this period.

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the City Of Naperville Finance Department and will continue our efforts in providing comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
