Illinois State Police Trooper Corey S. Thompsen died in a traffic collision while on duty. The 28-year-old was engaged in a traffic enforcement detail when a truck entered an intersection in Champaign County and struck his motorcycle. Despite immediate assistance from a witness and first responders, Thompsen was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Trooper Thompsen served the Illinois community for nearly five years, known as a dedicated law enforcement officer and beloved family member.

The truck driver involved was cited for failing to yield at a stop intersection and having an expired driver's license. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

"Our hearts go out to Trooper Thompsen’s family, friends, and colleagues. We ask for your prayers and support during this time."
