DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Bloomingdale Director of Police Frank Giammarese have announced charges against Domenico Polizzi, a man from Tazwell County. Polizzi is accused of stealing over $725 worth of merchandise from the Best Buy in Bloomingdale, located at 350 W. Army Trail Road. The 34-year-old, residing on the 400 block of Daniel Parkway in Washington, Illinois, appeared in court facing one count of burglary and two counts of retail theft, all classified as Class 3 felonies.

Polizzi was already on pre-trial release for allegedly stealing a golf club valued at $599.99 from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Lombard earlier this year. An arrest warrant was issued on August 26, 2024, after he failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing related to that case. During his recent court appearance, Polizzi was released on the new charges as mandated by law. However, the State subsequently filed a petition to revoke his pre-trial release concerning the previous case, which Judge Joseph Bugos approved.

The allegations state that on August 28, 2024, around 10:45 a.m., Polizzi entered the Best Buy store and concealed two pairs of headphones and a heart monitor before leaving approximately two minutes later. The stolen items are valued at about $728.98. Following an investigation, authorities identified Polizzi as the suspect and he was taken into custody by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office on October 9, 2024.

“Judge Bugos’ order to revoke pre-trial release and order Mr. Polizzi be detained pending trial sends the message that in DuPage County if you are granted pre-trial release, do not violate those conditions,” Berlin stated. “Conditions of pre-trial release are an order of the Court and are not optional. If you do violate those conditions, my office will do everything we can to ensure your future compliance with orders of the Court up to and including detention pending trial.”

Berlin also commended both local law enforcement agencies for their work: “I commend the Bloomingdale Police Department for their work on this case and for their ongoing efforts in keeping our businesses and patrons safe. I thank the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Adam Frahm and Michael Pingaj for their work in securing charges against Mr. Polizzi.”

Bloomingdale Director of Police Frank Giammarese praised his officers: “I am extremely proud of our Bloomingdale police officers for their ongoing work in protecting our community and holding those responsible for crime accountable for their actions,” he said. He also expressed gratitude towards State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team.

Polizzi's next court date is set for November 4, 2024, where he will face arraignment before Judge Margaret O’Connell.

The public is reminded that these charges are merely accusations; they do not constitute proof of guilt. A defendant remains innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt through due process.
