DuPage County Environmental Committee met July 2

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. CALL TO ORDER

8:30 AM meeting was called to order by Chair Sheila Rutledge at 8:47 A.M.

2. ROLL CALL

Other Board Member present: Member Patty Gustin

PRESENT Garcia, LaPlante, and Rutledge

ABSENT Covert, Cronin Cahill, and Evans

Motion to allow a Board Member to join committee for quorum purposes

Chair Rutledge appointed Member Michael Childress for purposes of a quorum. All ayes, motion carried.

3. CHAIRWOMAN'S REMARKS - CHAIR RUTLEDGE

No remarks were offered.

4. PUBLIC COMMENT

David Barcus, Dark Sky International, shared that the state of Illinois passed the Dark Sky bill. Barcus also shared information pertaining to Kane County Forest Preserve, Westmont Public Works, Brookfield's Pollinators meeting, Naperville Environment and Sustainability Task Force (NEST), and The Illinois Energy Efficiency Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG) lighting mandates.

6. DISCUSSION

6.A. Preliminary Budget FY2025

Joy Hinz, Environmental and Sustainability Programs Manager, shared the general fund allocation for the 2025 Environmental programs. Committee members discussed and suggested ways for the County to become leaders in making positive environmental changes.

7. STAFF REPORTS

7.A 24-1923

Solar Switch Summer 2024

Joy Hinz, Environmental and Sustainability Programs Manager, shared an update on the Solar Switch Program and the savings the program has provided for homeowners.

7.B. 24-1924

Portable and Medium- Format Battery Stewardship Act

Joy Hinz, Environmental and Sustainability Programs Manger, provided an update on the Portable Battery Stewardship Act and shared the benefits of this resource for the state of Illinois.

8. PRESENTATIONS

8.A. SCARCE

Kay McKeen, Executive Director of SCARCE, shared information on the summit from January that was held for all of the DuPage County Environmental groups. Other updates and the remainder of McKeen's presentation will be continued at the next Environmental Committee Meeting due to lack of time.

9. OLD BUSINESS

No old business was discussed.

10. NEW BUSINESS

No new business was discussed.

11. ADJOURNMENT

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:58 A.M.
