Mark Rice, a candidate for the 8th Congressional District, has expressed apprehension about an impending war, attributing it to what he believes are revelations from documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by the House Oversight Committee. Rice accuses President Joe Biden of being a compromised leader under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), alleging that he accepted bribes for his family's benefit.
“We predict another war on the horizon triggered by a weak and compromised US President, who is under the thumb of the CCP because he took bribes to enrich his family, according to FOIA’d docs by the House Oversight Committee,” Rice said. “From Saturday Reporting: Joe Biden said on Saturday the US does not support the independence of Taiwan after Taiwanese voters rebuffed China and gave the ruling party a third presidential term.”
Rice continued his criticism on Facebook.
"Folks, having a traitor as a US President has proven to have repeated dire consequences over the last few years," he further said. "And my Democrat opponent Raja Krishnamoorthi is all-in supporting Beijing Biden while hypocritically sitting as House Ranking member of the Select Committee on US and CCP relations. Raj-iden is a partner, a corruption protection agent. Make no mistake Raja is not standing with America if he’s turning a blind eye to his Democrat party leader taking bribes from the CCP."
These comments were made in response to Biden's clarification that the United States does not support Taiwan’s independence following Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party’s victory in their presidential elections. When asked by reporters about this issue, Biden simply stated, "We do not support independence."
The Democratic Progressive Party’s candidate Lai Ching-te pledged to confront Beijing while seeking talks despite U.S.'s consistent opposition to Taiwan’s formal declaration of independence since switching diplomatic recognition to Beijing in 1979. This stance was reiterated by Biden, who emphasized the U.S.'s commitment to cross-strait peace and stability, according to Reuters.
Rice also criticized his Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, for supporting Biden and accused him of ignoring alleged corruption within the Democratic Party. Krishnamoorthi is a Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Rice shared a video of Biden expressing support for China and disputing accusations related to his son Hunter’s business dealings with CCP-linked companies. He accused Krishnamoorthi of covering up for Joe Biden’s laundered payments from the CCP.
In an undated recording linked by Rice, a voice purported to be Krishnamoorthi's can be heard discussing his own connections to China.
"I have another New York Times reporter calling about my representation of the literally....the f***ing spy chief of China who started the company that my partner, who was worth $323 billion, founded and is now missing," the voice, believed to be Krishnamoorthi's, said on the recording.
Krishnamoorthi served as a partner at law firm Kirkland & Ellis from 2000 to 2007 and was president of Sivananthan Laboratories, a research and development company, from 2010 to 2017. He also worked as a Senate campaign staffer for former President Barack Obama, according to Ballotpedia. Currently seeking re-election for the 8th Congressional District—a seat also contested by Rice—the district encompasses northern Cook County, northern DuPage County, and northeast Kane County.
