City of Darien Police Committee met May 15.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee: 

1. Call to Order

      The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. in attendance were Chairman Joe Kenny, Alderman Ralph Stompanato and Chief Greg Thomas.

2. Public Comment and Communications

      There was no public comment or communications.

3. Approval of Meeting Minutes from the January 16, 2023 meeting

      Alderman Ralph Stompanato motioned to approve the minutes seconded by Chairman Joe Kenny. The minutes were approved.

4. Introduce New Committee Members

      Chairman Joe Kenny introduced Alderman Ralph Stompanato who said a few words including that he was looking forward to working with the committee. He is a resident of Darien for over 35 years as well as a Darien business owner.

5. Recap of 2022-2023 Police Committee

      Chairman Joe Kenny advised the new member of items that the Police Committee discusses and approves items such as budget expenditures, contracts and inter- governmental agreements. Chief added that purchase requests that exceed $5,000 are brought before the committee for approval. Chief went into detail on the various contracts that the police department typically executes. Chief did a recap of department operations, changes and improvements over the years. Chief also mentioned that it is national police week.

6. Next Meeting Date – June 19, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.

7. Adjournment

      Chairman Joe Kenny motioned to adjourn seconded by Alderman Ralph Stompanato. The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
