There were 1,661 offenders living in Cook County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by DuPage Policy Journal.

The data shows 1,579 men and 82 women were released in Cook County. Of the parolees, 16 were veterans, and the median age was 34. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced for a crime involving one or more weapons in 2021, and the oldest was a 83-year-old man sentenced for a sex crime in 2012.

The offender incarcerated the longest was Denson David. He was convicted of homicide in 1984 when he was 19 years old. He is now 58.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
