Lisa Bishop is seeking a return to a seat on the Maercker School District 60 school board in the April 4 election.

She was previously a board member in District 60 for 17 years. She said she feels "it is important for the board to represent the entire community, not just parents of current students. I want to ensure the district continues to use taxpayer dollars wisely.”

“I do not have an agenda, but would like to be sure that the district continues to challenge students academically, while protecting their social and emotional health, all while maintaining a responsible budget and only using funds currently allocated to the district,” Bishop said in a questionnaire. “I love Maercker D60 and enjoy board service (As a graduate of D60, I moved into the district so that my kids would receive the same great education as I enjoyed)."

On her website, Bishop shared she is a longtime youth volunteer. Apart from her volunteering work, and nearly 20 years serving the children of Maercker District 60 on the Board of Education, she also has 34 years of experience as a discussion leader with high school youth at her church.

Her experience includes negotiating four teachers contracts, being board president and vice president for 13 years, she has hired three superintendents, and has refinanced bonds twice to save taxpayer interest.

Bishop, a Clarendon Hills resident, also recalled her 35 years of trips to Appalachia to build and repair homes for those in need, noting her passion for helping wherever she is able. "Ever the optimist, I strive to make the world a little better each day,” she said.

Bishop is a food stylist. She received her bachelor’s degree in Food Science from Iowa State University.
