Royal Oaks resident Reid Goodrich is a candidate for a seat on the Fenton Community High School District 100 school board.

The election will be held on April 4.

“My name is Reid Goodrich and I have lived in Wood Dale for 10 years. I was part of a group that helped defeat the Fenton referendums in both June and November. I am now on the ballot April 4 to represent your voice on the Fenton School Board,” Goodrich said. “Our group rallied the people so their voice could be heard and most recently defeated the $99,000,000 referendum by 58% of the voters in November. As we said in our campaign, Fenton has the money and they will begin this spring to pay construction costs from their own pocket; not yours!”

Goodrich is aiming for transparency from the board as well as urging people to raise their concerns.

“We put financial information into the hands of the voters that Fenton was not sharing. The next step of our campaign is to put 'A Voice for the People' on the Fenton school board," Goodrich said. "Our objective is to provide more information to the voters and be in the position to ask the questions that benefit the taxpayers. While campaigning in the summer and fall, people repeatedly asked me ‘What are they spending their money on?' They also stated ‘My taxes are too high now.’ School finances are not transparent. I will work to provide information to you, the taxpayer, as school taxes are about 73.5% of your real estate tax burden. Elect me to the school board and I will do my best to address these issues.”

Goodrich is facing Kit Tingpalpong, Cary D. Lewis, and Leonel T. Figueroa for a four-year slot on the board, according to the DuPage County Clerk Election Divison.

The school raised eyebrows last year when it displayed transgender-, asexual-, and gay-pride flags in a Christmas display. The display at the high school in Bensenville included two trees behind which three pride flags were hung. Commenters on Twitter questioned the choice for the flags as well as its appearance.

Fenton Community High School District 100 oversees one school, Fenton High School. It is located at 1000 W. Green St. in Bensenville. The district oversees 1,443 students and employs 98 classroom teachers.
