The Elmhurst University women's basketball team suffered an 81-44 setback to Carroll University at Van Male Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers (9-6/4-2 CCIW) raced out to a 26-9 lead at the end of the opening quarter and took advantage of a seven-point second quarter for the Bluejays to extended their lead to 29 at the break.

Elmhurst (2-13/0-7) outscored the host in the fourth quarter, 14-12, but the Bluejays were unable to overcome the deficit.

Taylor Harazin led the way for Elmhurst with 18 points and three rebounds, while Anna Kleszynski added in 11 points, four rebounds, and dished out a team-high three assists. Payton Schmidt also contributed five points for the Bluejays in the loss.

Carroll was led by Olivia Rangel with 16 points and five assists. Natalie Palzkill chipped in 12 points and three rebounds, while teammate Emmie Wizner finished with 10 points of her own. Lauren Soyke posted a game-high seven boards in the win for the Pioneers.

Elmhurst shot 33.3 percent (16-of-48) from the field compared to Carroll's 51.6 percent (33-of-65). The Pioneers outshot the Bluejays from behind the arc too shooting 31.3 percent (5-of-16), while Elmhurst finished with an 18.2 percentage (2-of-11).

The Bluejays return to R.A. Faganel Hall to host the Big Blue of Millikin University for their next contest on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m.
