12. PRESENTATIONS

A. DuPage Trails Plan Update

1. DuPage Trails Plan Update Presentation

Sidney Kenyon, Senior Transportation Planner, provided the Committee with an update on the status and progress of the Division of Transportation's Trail Plan. The update focused on Survey #2 results and key takeaways and he also reviewed the schedule for the remaining activities. The Committee discussed considerations for bathroom facilities, pet clean up stations and shelters.

B. Permit Ordinance Framework

1. Permit Ordinance Framework Presentation

Bill Eidson, Assistant County Engineer, and Dave Furey, Highway Permits Supervisor, presented a framework for updating the Highway Permitting Ordinance. No major changes to the Permit Ordinance language is being proposed. The ordinance will be structured to include a companion technical manual to guide the application process. The most notable change will be to the fee structure. The intent is to simplify fees to align with specific scopes of work. The Division of Transportation presented a recommendation to eliminate application fees, eliminate fees for single family residential driveways and to waive municipal permit fees. Following discussion, the Committee generally concurred to the direction recommended by the Division of Transportation.

13. REPORT FROM STATE'S ATTORNEY

No report was offered.

14. OLD BUSINESS

Member Garcia asked Director Snyder about adding "988" suicide prevention signs near the railroad crossings in our County, which was brought up in the Intergovernmental meeting. Director Snyder informed her that he and Bill Eidson were looking into it.

Member Garcia also informed the Committee of the recently announced USDOT SMART Grant for Transportation Technology in the amount of $160,000,000. Director Snyder advised that the Division of Transportation has been implementing smart technology for several

years as part of our Central Signal System, which interconnects systems of signals, installs cameras and allows us to remotely monitor traffic operations. Director Snyder advised that the Division of Transportation would review the SMART Grant for possible eligible projects.

Member Krajewski requested an update on the impact of the past summer strike on our current road projects. Director Snyder informed the Committee that most of the projects are scheduled to be completed this year. Two projects, 87th at Woodward and the 55th Street resurfacing, will carry over to next year.
