GOP State House District 42 Republican candidate Stefanie Hood has conceded the election.

Hood lost to incumbent Democrat Rep. Terra Costa Howard (D-Glen Ellyn).

“While I am disappointed in the outcome of the election, I will continue my work for families and our communities," Hood said on Facebook. "Thank you to my family and the team of volunteers who worked alongside me every day for the change we need in this state. I am forever grateful for the outpouring of support and the amazing people I met in this process. Congratulations to Terra Costa Howard on her victory.”

Hood lost by 6,655 votes to Costa Howard, a District 48 incumbent. She gained 57.7 % of the vote with 24,815 votes compared to Hood's 42.3%.

According to the Dupage Policy JournalHood said she ran for state representative because rising crime, residents fleeing Illinois, high taxes, and poor education have made the American dream more difficult to achieve in Illinois. She said that in order to make Illinois a midwestern hub once again, career politicians need to be thrown out of office and new leadership needs to sent to Springfield.

Hood is an attorney at Edwards, Maxson, Mago, & Macaulay, LLP who focuses on data privacy, healthcare, and regulatory compliance. She lives with her husband and two kids in Glen Ellyn.

The Chicago Tribune reported that "In their first general election following the departure of indicted ex-Speaker Michael Madigan, Illinois House and Senate Democrats declared Tuesday they held onto their supermajorities as Republicans struggled to gain ground throughout the state."  The GOP went into the election with high hopes; however only 78 of the 118 House seats were contested, and only 25 of 59 seats were contested in the Senate. Republicans made modest gains in the State Senate, but it was still a disappointing night for them as the Democrats still have a supermajority in Springfield.
