The Addison School District 4 board of education held a meeting to update its goals for the academic year and discussions with principals.

“I dug into that and that was what we really spend a couple of months on and finding out where our strengths are and where we can continue to grow,” Teresa Polson, assistant superintendent for Innovation & Information, said. “Then as we took that data, as well as during the administrative retreat with our building administrators and district administrators, really got their feedback on what are some areas that we were doing well with for the school improvement process and what we needed to grow in and use that feedback along with the student data.”

The district offers a Livestream of the public meetings on its YouTube channel.

The Addison school district brought in a consultant in the summer of 2022 to help them develop a goal for the district, centered around feedback from the district principals on what they would like to see in the future of the district. The decided on collective efficacy for its staff, meaning confidence and competence in best instructional practices, with success measured by student success and improvement.

The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Indian Trail Jr. High School Board Room.

Polson and Kaite Purse, assistant superintendent for teaching & learning, met with each of the nine building principals within the first several weeks of the school year, as well as going to some of the leadership team meetings. They talked with the building leaders and asked them to set a goal for the building that fit under the overarching goal of the district, as well as creating an action plan to achieve that goal.

The district offers nine schools ranging from a learning center to a middle school.

As the district has now finalized its goal, they plan to try and release snapshots throughout the year as to how each building and the district is doing with its vision, and then give an overview of the entire year and goal at the end of the year in a final report.
