The Addison School District 4 board of education held a meeting to give updates on a construction project, finances and one of its programs.

“I'm always pleased and proud to be able to present that to you that we continue to do right by the taxpayers in our village,” Tim Keely, assistant superintendent for Business Chief School Business Official.

Keely gave a quick update from the business office, saying that their annual audit had gone very well, and all their current construction projects were closing out very smoothly. He also updated the board on their energy contract, which they had recently locked into a four-year contract with. He was pleased to share that their rates were very favorable compared to most others.

The district offers a Livestream of the public meetings on its YouTube channel.

He also gave a brief update on the Addison Tax Consortium, a group of all local tax entities like the school district, public library, fire protection board, park district, and other municipalities. They all share legal counsel on tax appeals, most of which come from commercial or industrial entities. In the current year, the consortium defended against $28 million of appeals, saving the district and taxpayers several million.

The district offers nine schools ranging from a learning center to a middle school.

In terms of professional development, the district has adopted their HMH program in their K through 8 teachers. They have several coaches and mentors and are moving up to the next level of training, with live peer group sessions for feedback and advice. They also had about 65 teachers trained in instructional practices inventory and how to improve student engagement.

The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Indian Trail Jr. High School Board Room.
