The Addison School District 4 Board of Education held a meeting Sept. 28 to give updates on a construction project, finances and one of its programs.

“I'm always pleased and proud to be able to present that to you that we continue to do right by the taxpayers in our village,” said Tim Keely, assistant superintendent for Business Chief School Business Official.

The district live streams the public meetings on its YouTube channel.

The school district’s budget is nearing the end of its long term plan, from 2018 up until 2023. One part of that plan was allocating appropriate resources within the budget. In doing this, the district has taken on many improvement projects since 2018: adding secure vestibules to multiple schools, getting new interior and exterior doors with added security, adding a classroom wing onto a school, and investing in the round building at Indian Trails school, which is original to the school.

The district offers nine schools ranging from a learning center to a middle school.

There has been some significant changes in the district’s revenue over the past years, with a major boost coming from the funding and grants related to COVID pandemic relief, most of which will be ending after this academic school year. The district has also seen a major decrease in investment revenue over the years.

The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 in Indian Trail Jr. High School Board Room.

The major expenses that the district include the new elementary school literacy project, the addition of a biliteracy director, and the project costs from its most recent capital projects of redoing the round building at Indian Trails. There have also been increases in most of the annual expenses, mostly due to inflation. The board voted in favor of adopting the proposed 2022-23 budget.
